Project Management Day of Service (PMDoS)® was started in 2014 in the US by PM4Change, a group of 40 project managers interested in civic engagement while furthering their beloved profession. Driven by an all-volunteer PMO, the first event brought together 300 volunteers to provide pro bono PM services to 100 local non-profits — a resounding success echoed across the DC area, within the PM community, and even by the White House blog.
The Wellingtone partnership with PM4Change means we are the exclusive UK partner for this amazing event. We bring together worthwhile charitable causes with project management practitioners, trainers & consultants for a day of pro bono advice. The UK PMDoS takes place every year on (or as close as possible) to Star Wars Day, May the 4th… obviously.
Philosophy
PMDoS is guided by a few simple principles:
Provide project management expertise to community organisations that do not understand the project management methodology or may not be able to afford project management services.
Create a global framework for project managers to provide pro-bono project management services.
Promote and elevate the status of the project management profession by clarifying its unique value proposition.
Process
During each consultation session at the PMDoS event, project management practitioners meet with representatives of the participating charities to review prepared “problem statements.”
Using these problem statements as a springboard, the project management practitioners identify solutions, develop clearly defined scope statements and create actionable, customised project plans that will serve as blueprints for business sustainability.
PMDOS | Feel the Force
On Project Management Day of Service (PMDoS), Wellingtone and our fellow volunteers helped UK based charities Feel the Force by unleashing the boundless potential of the project management profession to empower and transform.
Over 50 charities have attended our London and Manchester based events receiving support and guidance from leading project management practitioners from a wide range of organisations, including Wellingtone. These practitioners provided consultancy advice across three key areas: Planning & Strategy, Technology, Marketing & Communications. It should be noted that this would not be possible without practitioners donating their time for free. We are also grateful to our friends at RSM and Microsoft for providing venues at no cost.
The Wellingtone PMDoS brings about real practical benefits to organisations who themselves are fighting to make a difference and typically do not have access to project management expertise.
