What is Project for the Web?
Project for the Web is Microsoft’s most recent offering for cloud-based work and project management. It provides simple, powerful work management capabilities and can be used by project managers and team members to plan and manage work. Project for the web is the latest addition to the Microsoft Project product family, which includes Project Online Desktop Client, Project Online and Project Server.
Project for the web is built on the Microsoft Power Platform. The Power Platform consists of PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI, and the Microsoft Dataverse.

How is it licensed?
Project for the web is a project management planning experience that is easy-to-use, web-based, and especially created for informal (or ‘accidental’) Project Managers. It is available through three subscriptions: Project Plan 1, Project Plan 3, and Project Plan 5.
Note: Project Plan 3 and Project Plan 5 subscriptions provide access to both Project for the Web and Project Online. For more information on what you can do in Project Online, see Microsoft Project Online Licensing Plans
However, there are options to extend the planning functionality using the Power Platform, where additional licensing subscriptions may apply.

Extending Project for the Web
Project for the Web has been designed by Microsoft to be customised and extended, and this is made possible by the fact that it is built on the Dataverse platform where the data is stored within a set of tables. Project for the Web comes with its own tables which can be extended, and you can also add your own custom tables and suite of reports using the Power Platform.
Microsoft Project for The Web: Project Application
Whilst the Project Application can be extended with custom tables without the need to purchase additional Power Apps licenses, to ensure cost-effective scalability, Wellingtone recommend extending the Project application with a custom Power App.
Note: Building separate Power Apps beyond the out-of-the-box Project Application that accesses Project for the web data requires a separate Power Apps subscription.
What can I do with Project for the Web?
Listed below are the features that that interact with data in the Project for the web data store. All these features are available in all Microsoft Project subscriptions: Project Plan 1, Project Plan 3, and Project Plan 5. Although features marked with an * will require additional subscriptions.
